Akron residents accused in scheme to fraudulently obtain federal student aid

Four Akron residents have been indicted in federal district court on charges of using fake GED certificates to enroll in the University of Akron and get more than $104,000 in financial aid, the Plain Dealer reports. Charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud are: Lori A. Martin, 46; Raheem J. Martin, 40; Teresa K. Scott, 34; and Tina M. Mileca, 34. “These defendants cut corners to get money to which they were not entitled,” said Steven Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, in a news release. “Our office will continue to prosecute those who defraud the federal government.”
