BRETFORD® CONTINUES WEBINAR PROGRAM WITH SESSIONS
ON THE AGILE CLASSROOM AND LOW CARBON STRATEGIES

Third of Six-Part Series on Agile Learning Spaces Led By Tim Springer HERO Inc. with Expert Panel Input; Low Carbon Strategies Taught by Mark LaCroix, Carbon Neutral

CHICAGO — October 26, 2012 — Bretford Manufacturing, Inc.®, a United States manufacturer of dependable furniture products that improve how people work and learn, is continuing its online education program with two new webinars. On October 30 at 2:00 p.m. E.T., the third installment in a six-part series on Agile Learning, called “Designing the Agile Classroom: Teaching the Third Teacher to Dance” will be led by Tim Springer, founder of HERO, Inc. with input from an expert panel that includes: James Thompson, president of Gibraltar Design, Inc.; Dave Broz, firmware education leader and senior associate of Gensler; along with Barbara Kranz, director, facilities planning & space management and Severin Grabski, associate professor & faculty advisor for Instructional Technology, both at Michigan State University. And on November 7 at 2:00 p.m. E.T., “Low Carbon Strategies: Fundamentals of Greenhouse Gas Reduction in the Built Environment” will be taught by Mark LaCroix, executive vice president of business development for The Carbon Neutral Company.

“The two upcoming webinars topics tie together in that they both can have a profound effect on the learning space,” said Cindy Weinschreider, director of marketing communications for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc.® “Creating an agile classroom gives students and educators the opportunity for mobile learning, which caters to the use of technology and opens the door to infinite new ways of teaching. At the same time, making the built environment, such as a school or classroom, a safer, healthier place for children in particular, will also lead to higher attendance and more opportunity for learning during the school day.”

“Designing the Agile Classroom: Teaching the Third Teacher to Dance” will discuss the physical environment (also known as the third teacher), its importance in learning and teaching, and the challenges and benefits involved with accommodating mobility, adaptability and agility in the learning space.

“Today’s student is a digital native who grew up with technology,” explained David Broz, firmwide education leader and senior associate at Gensler. “They don’t see the walls of the traditional classroom as the boundary of their learning on campus. They are looking for learning to happen outside of the classroom, whether on campus or virtually throughout the globe. This represents a shift in the university business model — it’s not just the information that makes these institutions great; it’s the experience and environments for learning that will remain their competitive edge.”

“Low Carbon Strategies: Fundamentals of Greenhouse Gas Reduction in the Built Environment” focuses on ways to decarbonize the built environment, which currently accounts for 40 percent of U.S. GHG emissions. Attendees will learn the fundamentals of effective and credible carbon management and how those strategies can facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy that includes saving money, and reducing climate impact.
