American Sentinel University Appoints Nursing Educator Dr. Catherine Earl as Associate Provost

AURORA, Colo. – May 15, 2012 – American Sentinel University, a leading online university accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, today announced that Dr. Catherine Earl has joined the university as associate provost effective April 23, 2012.

Dr. Earl has been a nursing educator for more than three decades and will be an integral part of the Provost’s office. Her responsibilities include organizing academic committees, working with the deans and staff, interfacing with the president on accreditation issues, working with the provost to coordinate academic planning, policies and practices across the university and supporting the activities of the nursing programs.

Most recently, Dr. Earl served as dean of nursing at West Coast University and has served as dean, chair, director and faculty in nursing programs for both community colleges and universities over the past 20 years.

Dr. Earl has a diverse and extensive nursing history that includes leadership positions as the chair for the state of Utah nursing educational programs and serving on the Veteran’s Board appointed by the Governor of Utah. She was also the recipient of the Outstanding Excellence in Leadership state award from the Utah Hospital Association.

Dr. Earl also serves as an editorial reviewer for nursing journals, has been published in a variety of nursing journals, served on thesis and dissertation committees and has established graduate nursing programs to serve the needs of the community.

She earned a doctorate of public administration from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in nursing from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. In addition, Dr. Earl completed a postdoctoral fellowship in epidemiology in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.

Dr. Earl has presented at international conferences in China, Thailand, South Africa, Spain, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and Israel on various nursing issues. She has also conducted research on nursing education in Ecuador and Thailand. She was among the first group of nurses in the United States to visit South Africa with a focus on HIV/AIDS prevention.
