New, cheaper Nook may debut next week


Is Barnes and Noble releasing a low-end Nook next week? The retailer is holding a press event in New York City on May 24, reports the Washington Post. The date matches a planned launch mentioned in a company Securities and Exchange Commission filing that the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month. Documents filed with the SEC indicated that Barnes and Noble would announce “a new eReader device”at the launch. Many expect the new Nook to be a black-and-white, cheaper, e-Ink version of its predecessor. The Nook Color just got an upgrade, bringing it closer to a tablet than any other eReader on the market. If the bookstore behemoth does introduce a newer, cheaper Nook to rival the Kindle, it could up the ante in the company’s competition with Amazon…
