State College, Pennsylvania, Dec. 8, 2009 — Western New York Regional Information Center (WNYRIC) will offer the Schoolwires Synergy digital file sharing solution to its member districts to support their eportfolio initiatives, it was announced today by Schoolwires, one of the nation’s leading providers of strategic website and community management solutions for building stronger school communities, more effective schools and enabling greater student success.
WNYRIC provides technology services to five regionally based BOCES and their component school districts. A quarter of a million students are educated in the Western New York Region where the WNYRIC provides information and technology services to support instructional and administrative functions. The Synergy solution will be available to all the districts within WNYRIC. Synergy is a digital file sharing solution from Schoolwires that provides administrators, staff and educators a web-based, centralized and secure solution for creating, editing, and sharing content such as documents, files and presentations.
WNYRIC chose the Synergy solution because of its ease of use and the fact that it is integrated and accessible to users from within the Schoolwires Centricity strategic website and community management platform that is already in place at 41 WNYRIC districts. Accessing Synergy does not require a separate login; users can access it from within the teacher web pages and other online resources they are already using within Centricity.
“Implementing and accessing Synergy will be easy for our districts that are already successfully using the Centricity platform,” said Mary Kovach, coordinator, CSLO/Model Schools, Technology Services, Erie 1 BOCES/WNYRIC. “The flexibility and full functionality of Synergy will enable districts to build electronic portfolios to track the performance of students from kindergarten through 12th grade. They can also use Synergy as a file-sharing application for students to submit their homework and for teachers and administrators to easily store and share resources. By making Synergy available to our members, we are providing them with the file sharing and electronic portfolio applications they have been asking for within a product that many districts already feel comfortable with.”
The 41 districts are using Centricity on a daily basis to make information and resources more accessible to students, staff and the community. A popular feature of Centricity is the capability for teachers to easily create web pages to engage students and their parents in support of student success. Unlike any other solution, Centricity is designed to enable collaboration, work hand-in-hand with digital file sharing, improve communications, enhance operational efficiency, and encourage broad adoption and participation by administrators, teachers, families and students.
“Electronic portfolios are becoming an increasingly important tool for tracking and measuring student progress,” said Edward S. Marflak, founder and CEO of Schoolwires. “The fact that this functionality is accessible to users from within the familiar Centricity platform makes it even more powerful and more likely to be adopted by districts.”
