September 9, 2009, Wisconsin Rapids, WI – Renaissance Learning today announced an enhancement to the company’s 2Know! classroom response system that will support short-answer responses from students using the Renaissance Responders, much like text entry on a cell phone.
The new feature will allow students to be able to provide alphanumeric answers to open ended questions in addition to the wide range of existing question type formats already available in the system’s 2Know! Toolbar and AccelTest software.
As part of the interactive 2Know! classroom response system, the handheld Renaissance Responders utilize two-way radio-frequency communication and a screen to display question, answer choices, and responses. The technology helps teachers know instantly if students understand key concepts and provides automated scoring for classroom assessments and quizzes. The system’s user-friendly 2Know! Toolbar allows teachers to set up questions in seconds and the included AccelTest test generator tabulates and stores results automatically into a gradebook, which saves teachers time and eliminates paperwork.
“The addition of short-answer capabilities to the Renaissance Responder is a fantastic advancement that will allow the teacher to expand the scope of classroom assessments and further engage the students with technology that they’re accustomed to using outside the classroom,” said Steve Schmidt, Renaissance Learning President and COO. “This enhancement is another example of our commitment to providing additional value for our customers’ existing products, which is ever more important with the current constraints on school budgets.”
This latest announcement closely follows the company’s recent release that provided the ability to utilize the company’s MathFacts in a Flash software on Renaissance Responders. The 2Know! classroom response system has been adopted at varying levels of implementations by a majority of the largest districts in the U.S. and schools in every state. All current 2Know! classroom response system customers will be able to take advantage of this latest advancement via a free update. The updates will be available in early 2010 from the Renaissance Learning website at www.renlearn.com/downloads.
