The FBI has warned that college students and staff members in South Carolina are being targeted by a "phishing" scam, reports the Charleston Post and Courier. In a press release, David A. Thomas, special agent in charge of the FBI in South Carolina, said students and staff members could receive phishing eMail messages requesting their user ID and password information for a server repair. "Do not respond," Thomas said. "This ‘phishing’ scam is allowing spammers to generate massive volumes of spam eMail utilizing those responders’ user names and passwords, which would result in blockage from,, and numerous other eMail accounts." Thomas urged victims of the scam to change their password immediately and to notify their school.
