Curriculum Associates’ ‘DORA Phonemic Awareness’ is Now Available to Help Schools Assess Reading Skills of K-1 Students
NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., August 4, 2009 – Curriculum Associates, the sole distributor of the DORA and DOMA systems created by Let’s Go Learn, announces that DORA Phonemic Awareness is now available as part of the DORA—Diagnostic Online Reading Assessment System to provide K-1 educators with an easy-to-use online diagnostic reading assessment.
DORA Phonemic Awareness provides an effective and cost-saving alternative to one-on-one diagnosis of oral phonemic awareness skills, while assessing nonreaders or struggling readers in nine categories, including addition, deletion, substitution, identification, categorization, blending, segmenting, isolation, and rhyming.
“We made the decision to offer DORA Phonemic Awareness because we saw a great need for reading assessment at an early age. Phonemic awareness is an excellent predictor for reading success and all students in grades K-1 should be receiving the best diagnostic assessment possible. DORA Phonemic Awareness’ picture and audio assessments adapt in real-time based on student responses, allowing students to continuously stay challenged. The program provides teachers with reports in real-time that support differentiated instruction and aggregated data for program planning. In addition, the research-based assessments are aligned to state standards.
DORA—Diagnostic Online Reading Assessment and DOMA—Diagnostic Online Math Assessment programs provide teachers with direct access to diagnostic assessments formerly only available to reading/math specialists or diagnosticians. It then provides the results from these assessments in real time, thus allowing teachers to use the data immediately to provide intervention and differentiated instruction to improve student performance in today’s diverse classrooms.
