Nimbix, provider of high performance and cloud supercomputing services, announced its new combined product strategy for enterprise computing, end users and developers. This new strategy will focus on three key capabilities – JARVICECompute for high performance processing, including Machine Learning, AI and HPC workloads; PushToCompute for application developers creating and monetizing high performance workflows; and MaterialCompute, a brand new intuitive user interface, featuring the industry’s largest high performance application marketplace available from a cloud provider. Portfolium, a cloud-based platform empowering students with lifelong opportunities to capture, curate, and convert skills into job offers, and Canvas by Instructure, a modern learning management system (LMS) that makes teaching and learning easier for educators and students, announced that they have partnered to connect learning with career opportunity. Flatiron School has joined the Student Developer Pack to offer students one free month of their Community-Powered Bootcamp, a flexible online course in web development. The Community-Powered Bootcamp is a self-paced subscription program for beginners. Users will learn online using the same course of study as the Web Developer Program—a comprehensive curriculum tailored to job seekers. Read more.

Burning Glass Technologies announces the launch of Program Insight, a ground-breaking real-time labor data tool that allows educators and learning providers to ensure that academic program development matches up with the realities of the job market. Both traditional higher education and nontraditional training providers are under increasing pressure to ensure that their programs put students on a path to employment—a crucial factor for students making enrollment decisions; educators justifying programs to funders, accreditors, and trustees; and graduates who need to pay off their loans. Digital resources

Unizin, Ltd. and Cengage, an education and technology company, announced a partnership to provide Unizin’s member institutions with access to Cengage’s full suite of digital course offerings, including MindTap, Aplia and e-texts. Under the Inclusive Access arrangement, Unizin’s 22 consortium members can deliver student savings on courseware up to 50% based on discipline and volume, and up to 70 percent on eTexts. Students will also benefit from seamless access to their materials on the first day of class. Read more.

D2L, which has helped transform learning for people all over the world, announces that the University of Ottawa has chosen Brightspace as its new learning management system (LMS). Brightspace was selected to support the university’s vision of offering the most advanced next-generation digital learning environment (NDGLE), designed to meet the modern demands of today’s students and instructors. D2L now supports more than half of Canada’s research-intensive universities. Read more.

A new collaboration between Follett Higher Education Group and VitalSource Technologies LLC is making it easier for college students to access their digital learning materials. By integrating systems, Follett and VitalSource are eliminating the need for passcodes to access VitalSource content via Follett’s BryteWave digital textbook reader. Students simply log in to their learning management system (LMS) and click a link for instant access to their needed materials. Read more.

Blackboard Inc., an education technology company for teaching, learning and student engagement, is pleased to announce the first round of winners in its 2016-17 Exemplary Course Program. The biannual awards program recognizes faculty and course designers from schools, colleges, and universities around the world who develop engaging and innovative courses that represent the very best in technology and learning. The latest ranking at Best College Values, a website devoted to providing resources to prospective students that focus on high value degree programs, has released a ranking of 25 Best Online Master’s in Engineering in Aerospace Engineering and Aviation. The ranking consists of twenty-five regionally accredited colleges and universities which offer high quality online academic and professional programs in these areas of study. Read more.

The Institute of International Education (IIE) has announced the winners of the annual IIE Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education. IIE’s Heiskell Awards showcase the most innovative and successful models for internationalizing the campus, study abroad, and international partnership programs in practice today, with a particular emphasis on initiatives that remove institutional barriers and broaden the base of participation in study abroad and promote international teaching and learning on campus. Sending a congratulatory letter to constituents when they accomplish something noteworthy is a tried-and-true constituent relations strategy. A new service called Merit makes it easy and free for legislators or their staffs to congratulate college students from their districts with no paper, no stamps, and no need to look up addresses. More than 250 colleges are using Merit to automatically send notifications of campus achievements and activities to each student’s elected state representatives. With Merit’s recent upgrade to its “constituent relations” platform, those elected officials can now use a free Merit account that lets them send congratulatory messages to their student constituents. A $1 million gift from University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) will support community health initiatives and the training of physician leaders attending Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. Most of UFCU’s gift will ultimately assist with community health initiatives led by the medical school’s Department of Population Health. The gift also will create three four-year scholarships for students in the 2017–2018 entering class, with preference given to those who intend to provide care in Central Texas upon graduating. The scholarships, administered through Texas Exes, will go to students from groups traditionally underrepresented in medicine. Read more.
