Below, we’ve gathered some of the latest and most relevant marketplace news to keep you up-to-date on product developments, teaching and learning initiatives, and new trends in education.

The nomination window is open for the 2017 Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education, which honors innovation. The Prize is administered through an alliance between McGraw-Hill Education and Arizona State University, which began in 2015. The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education annually recognizes outstanding individuals who have dedicated themselves to improving education through new approaches and whose accomplishments are making a difference today. The thirteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings, compiled by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, lists Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the world’s best university for a fifth consecutive year. Stanford University rises above Harvard and the University of Cambridge into second place. In doing so, it means that the United States holds all of the top-three places for the first time since the inaugural rankings of 2004. Stanford University also achieves its highest-ever position. The University of Texas Libraries and the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin are launching a new productivity space that allows library users to take ideas and turn them into reality. “The Foundry,” a new maker space set to open in the Fine Arts Library (FAL), will provide tools for pursuing creative impulses and ideas within a space where students can gather to create independently or collaboratively, and where users will have immediate access to traditional library resources and services to augment their work. Pearson and Lone Star College-Tomball announced the results of a newly released case study, based on the institution’s “GRIT, Growth, Greatness” (G3) college-wide initiative, including the Student Success online and on-campus course. To counteract declining enrollments and less-than-satisfactory performance on Lone Star College district Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) – achievement in core academics, persistence, and certificate/degree completion – in fall 2015, LSC-Tomball adopted a strategic focus around GRIT as a means to better prepare students in their pursuit of academic, career, and life aspirations. Panopto announced that its video platform has been selected by Yale University for campus-wide video content management, recording, and streaming. As part of the announcement, Panopto will convert over 10,000 hours of existing content from the university’s legacy video platforms. Read more.

Unity Technologies, a global development platform for creating 2D, 3D, VR and AR games and experiences, announced a new partnership with the University of Utah. Under the agreement, all senior undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the University of Utah’s Entertainment Arts & Engineering (EAE) program can become Unity Certified Developers, free of charge.
