Eight Universities Select Localist To Engage Students, Unify Campus Life

Localist’s social calendar system to service more than 105,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Baltimore, Md. (August 1, 2011)—Localist, a comprehensive social calendar platform that transforms static event calendars into interactive social hubs, announces eight new partnerships with an impressive list of universities. The higher education facilities that will now offer the social-based calender to their student body include:

o DePaul University – Chicago, Ill.
o Emmanuel College – Boston, Mass.
o Georgetown University – Washington D.C.
o Towson University – Towson, Md.
o University of Delaware – Newark, Del.
o University of Rhode Island – Kingston, RI..
o Virginia Military Institute – Lexington, Va.
o Williams College – Williamstown, Mass.

These institutions join eleven other universities who have already discovered the benefits of Localist and currently utilize the platform on their campus. In addition to the eight new universities, Baltimore Collegetown, an organization designed to unite 14 area colleges and universities in the Baltimore metropolitan area, has also selected Localist for its social calendaring platform.

“The feedback we’ve received from our university partners has been fantastic,” says Localist CEO Mykel Nahorniak. “From increasing student retention rates to engaging the student body on the social networks they’re already using, Localist has been able to foster a more unified campus life.”

Localist replaces organizations’ static online calendar with a social experience. Engaging the student body on online platforms that student’s use everyday, the calendar system includes features such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare integration, and mobile access.
Students can easily see who is attending what events or discover new destinations through its review-based features. Students can also create their own events, such as events held by campus organizations or even a birthday party.

More than just an event calendar, Localist also acts as a marketing and communications tool, featuring search engine optimization, automated newsletters, building directories and content curation. The universities can also fully control all branding elements. These additional features work to streamline a variety of university processes, saving the institutions thousands of dollars a year and creating a more unified campus life.
